It’s live

go is now live at go.dbenton.com. I am running WordPress [wordpress.org] version 1.2. So far, I am pleased. It seems to be lower maintenance than Moveable Type, but by the same token a bit less flexible (templating in particular). It is possible that I just haven’t realized its full potential yet. The docs aren’t as good as MT’s excellent ones, but I had no major trouble getting it installed and templated, so no complaints.

I still haven’t decided what to do with portraiture yet. It is still MT (and in the old directory structure) for now. If anyone out there has advice for a system that can do the following, let me know:

  • automatic thumbnailing
  • categories - preferably with the ability to assign multiple categories to each picture
  • metadata storage - photo credit, subject(s), timestamp, etc…
  • flexible output - categorical lists, single image pages (permalinkesque) - generally templatable
  • standards compliant (x)html + css

I know this sounds a lot like a blog with custom fields and thumbnailing. There’s probably an obvious solution, but when I last looked (a year ago) I decided that the way to go was to roll my own. I don’t, however, have the time or inclination.

dubnium is in much the same near-complete state as go, and consulting is coming along. The pick-a-site page for the domain root is nearly done. This is coming right along, but there’s always more to be done, isn’t there?
