I’m learning how to swim
Published July 6th, 2004 in OutdoorsDon’t get me wrong, I can stay afloat and move in the direction of my choosing. However, I don’t know “proper” techniques, and I’m sure I could be much more efficient. My girlfriend, Heather Thielen, spent every summer working as a lifeguard before graduating college and joining corporate America. So, she is my teacher.
I haven’t swum much since childhood, and I’ve never swum laps. I kayak, and that involves some swimming, but not much if I do it right. I swim occasionally for fun or relaxation, but that isn’t much like swimming to travel. The point is, this is new to me.
Tonight, we went swimming. We arrived at the gym at around 7:35. The pool closes at 8:00. We swam for about 20 minutes, probably half of which I spent either receiving lessons or resting. So, 10 minutes and I am tired. My legs are going to be sore, but I feel refreshed.
Sore and tired, but refreshed. I like this swimming stuff.
