This weekend I went to North Carolina to camp, paddle, and mountain bike with friends. Also there were Heather, Montie Schmiege, Jeremy Malin, his girlfriend Kristen Camp, Ryan Camp, his girlfriend Kathy Stair, the Camp family, and some of their friends. The Camps planned the whole thing and were very generous throughout the weekend. It was a busy weekend and I’m beat so I’m going to try to be brief.

We took Heather’s car (a 2001 VW Jetta Wolfsburg), which was possible because of her recently acquired Yakima rack. Thanks, Nathan. We threw my bike trays and bike on top and were off at a relatively early 8:30 Friday evening.

Jeremy, Ryan, and I went out that night around 1:00 to paddle, but the moon was not up and it was foggy. We opted to sleep.

Saturday we slept in. Around midday we biked one of the loops at Tsali. It was fun and challenging. That night we rafted in a raft that Jeremy brought. We also kayaked next to our camp. Sunday we paddled from the public put-in down to the NOC. I tried to surf Nantahala Falls and got dragged across some rocks.

I am tired and sore all over, but it was well worth it - a very fun weekend with people I enjoy.
