Filling A Need
Published August 15th, 2004 in MiscellanyI love it. I wrote a post earlier about the Aimee Mann song on the West Wing because I wanted to find out more about the song. That post has become a high ranking Google result for relevant searches. Now it is a source of information (hopefully useful) for others that saw the show and enjoyed the song.
Collective problem solving is one of my favorite things about the web, especially blogs and forums. When you have a problem or a solution, write about it. If you contribute even a small piece of the puzzle for the next guy, it may mean he solves it. He writes about that. The kind folks at Google do their best to sort all of this by relevance, and everyone wins.
So, when you have a problem, write, and when you solve a problem, write. Just make sure you:
- include the search terms you used
- include search terms others are likely to use
- link to any relevant information you found, and
- give credit to your sources
I知 a little nervous posting here, as this is my inaugural blog experience. It痴 a whole new world. Do I comment on the most recent entry? Or the one I like the best? Do blog commenters use complete sentences and proper grammar, or do they write in that half-English that is the evil step-child of email and the internet? Anyway, Jon likes reading your blog, so I decided to give it a try. And I must say, I知 very entertained. In fact, I知 chuckling out loud, which is a true hazard now that I work from a cubicle, 1. because I sound like a lunatic, and 2. because it notifies anyone within hearing range (which is significant here in Cubicle Land) that I知 certainly not doing anything work-related. Unless I truly have gone loony. Anyway, the point is that I致e enjoyed my inaugural blog experience, and I知 very impressed by your witty and intelligent discourse. I知 a little lost on the Fitt痴 law business, but it痴 enough to impress me with how much you know and to further convince me that you値l be wildly successful with your business. Hooray! And now that I致e written what I知 sure must be an atypically long blog comment (not to mention its general irrelevance to the entry on which I知 commenting, which I enjoyed immensely, by the way), I値l get back to real work. Continue with the wonderful blogging, and perhaps you値l turn me into a convert. P.S. (Is the P.S. in proper blogging form? Probably not.) Jon had me check out your Little Creek site, and it looks fabulous! I知 really very impressed with everything I see around these parts. Have a lovely weekend!
