Stealing the Symphony

Heather and I found out at around 7:50 that the CSO season opener was tonight. The show was to start at 8:00 and we weren’t dressed, had no tickets and were a half hour drive away. Since we’re such orchestra fiends, we decided to see if we could get in anyway.

We got dressed as quickly as possible and headed downtown. When we got there, Heather went in and checked on tickets: the box office was closed. (if you’re looking for the most remarkable part of this story, here it comes) We found a parking spot directly in front of the Tivoli. Then we waited. When throngs of Chattanoogans exiting for a smoke-break heralded intermission, we snuck.

We snuck into the theater. What wild, unpredictable kids we are. Every note of Tchaikovsky’s —well, I don’t know what it was, precisely, without a program, (they come with the ticket) but it was good— every note of Tchaikovsky’s whatever-it’s-called was that much sweeter in the knowledge of our misdeed.
